Colour must be reproducible

CONSISTENT COLOUR MANAGEMENT

Consistent colour management means reproducing colours as reliably as possible across different production runs, materials and production dates. To ensure consistency, prepress, the colour laboratory and production must work together in an integrated process.

TYPICAL APPLICATIONS

  • brands with defined corporate colours
  • extensive product ranges
  • long-term label programmes
  • recurring production runs
  • label series produced on different materials

WHAT WORKS WELL

With colour consistency, the colours must be clearly defined before production and must have been agreed upon using binding references. Our offset presses operate in accordance with the ProcessStandard Offset guidelines (a standardised, industrially oriented quality management guide for offset printing based on the international ISO 12647 series of standards). In prepress, we use calibrated systems and standardised proofing options for both glossy and matt surfaces.

CLARITY ABOUT COLOUR

Many colour variations arise before printing even begins. This could be due to different artwork versions, unsuitable colour profiles or unclear colour references. The inherent colour and surface of the label material also affect the final printed result.

COLOUR CONTROL

Reproducible colour depends on a controlled process, from artwork preparation and proofing through to colour formulation and ongoing production. Colour is thus not only assessed at the printing press.

IN PRACTICE

Vollherbst has its own colour laboratory where we formulate special colours, assess them under standardised lighting, and measure them against defined Delta E values.

We store approved colour formulations which can be reproduced precisely for future production runs using our automated colour-mixing system. This reduces dosing variations and provides a reliable basis for repeat orders.

As part of the colour-matching process, selected colours can be tested on the intended original material before production on the press. This allows us to assess the influence of the material, colour appearance, and technical feasibility at an early stage.

We create the basis for consistent colour reproduction across the entire label portfolio through standardised processes, calibrated systems, stored colour formulations and regular measurements.
